The mission of the Sheela Basrur Centre is to strengthen the capabilities, knowledge and expertise of public health professionals and to educate the public on key strategies to promote health. Its outreach initiatives include a series of educational events and professional development programs in support of public health renewal and leadership in Ontario.

Sheela Basrur Centre  

Dr. Sheela Basrur was an outstanding leader in the field of public health. She had a remarkable career before succumbing to cancer on June 2, 2008 at the age of 51. Dr. Basrur was a public figure who built strong relationships with many organizations and with the people of Ontario. The Sheela Basrur Centre, under the leadership of the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion, honours her legacy.

The Sheela Basrur Centre provides integrated training and learning opportunities for health professionals such as nurses, doctors, researchers, technicians, caregivers and scientists. These opportunities include integrated learning and training to connect participants with the broader health system and cutting-edge expertise. There are three components:
